About the PMI Framework

The PMI framework was developed after thousands of years of Projects have been undertaken. For example, Egyptians built the pyramids around 2500 BC and the Chinese built the great wall around 200 BC. Moreover, in the early 1900s, as projects became industrialized, the management approach became more structured. After that, the approach started to be based on more solid tools and techniques.

Around the 1960s, efforts were made to professionalize project management on one hand. And, for instance, to turn it into a specialization of its own by the other hand. Indeed, there are many organizations around the world that have been promoting the “profession”. Likewise, the most known organizations are the Project Management Institute (PMI) and Axelos with the PRINCE2 methodology.

PMI Framework Overview

In 1969, five volunteers founded the PMI (Project Management Institute). Above all, their goal was to establish an organization where members could share their experiences, discuss issues and address their problems and concerns. As a result, today, PMI is the most recognized project management organization

PMI built a project management framework that is applicable to every industry. Industries such as construction or IT, claim to have benefited from this. The most well know PMI certification is the Project Management Professional (PMP), with more than 790.000 credential holders around the world. Furthermore, PMI created and developed other certifications like CAPM, PMI-ACP, PMI-RMP, PMI-PBA, PMI-PgMP, and PMI-PfMP.
